Calangute Police Crack Down on IPL Betting Racket
Goa Police have arrested three bookies from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly running an online IPL 2025 betting operation during the high-profile Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans T20 match. The arrests took place during a midnight raid in Calangute, a popular tourist hub in Goa.
Accused Caught With Betting Gadgets Worth Over ₹1 Lakh
The arrested individuals were identified as Ankit Rathore (34) from Bhopal, Badal (32), and Ajay (32), both from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. According to officials, the raid took place at Flat No. 203, Arsh’s Nest, Saldana Kayle Garden, Baga Calangute Bardez, between 12:35 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. on Monday.
Authorities recovered a laptop and seven mobile phones valued at approximately ₹1.10 lakh during the operation. The suspects were booked under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act (GDDPG Act).
Police Investigation Aims to Uncover Wider Betting Network
The crackdown is being led by Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal, with Inspector Paresh Naik and SDPO Vishwesh Karpe spearheading the investigation. Officials confirmed that further inquiries are underway to trace the broader illegal betting network operating from within and outside the state.
Recent Crackdowns Highlight Growing Concern Over IPL Betting
This incident follows a similar IPL betting bust in Panaji, where three individuals from Telangana were arrested earlier this month for accepting bets on the Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians match. In that case, police recovered gaming accessories and digital devices worth ₹1.80 lakh.
Law enforcement agencies continue to remain vigilant during the ongoing IPL 2025 season, which has seen a surge in illegal online betting activities across India.
