In a shocking incident from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, a 35-year-old woman was brutally murdered inside her home for allegedly refusing to convert to Islam and marry her attacker.
Victim Identified as Bhagyashree Namdev Dhanuk
The victim, Bhagyashree Namdev Dhanuk, was attacked late at night in her residence in Navara, under the Nepanagar police station area. According to police, the accused, Sheikh Raees (42), slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times, killing her on the spot.
The police swiftly arrested Raees and confirmed that he has been charged under sections of murder and atrocity laws.
Family’s Statement: Harassment and Forced Conversion
The victim’s sister, Subhadra Bai, made disturbing revelations about repeated harassment by the accused.
“He used to beat her, grab her hair, and harass her. He had been forcing her for marriage and religious conversion. When she refused, he entered the house and slit her throat,” she alleged.
Outrage Among Locals
The murder has triggered massive public outrage in the Hindu community. Protestors, led by Amit Varude, described the crime as a case of ‘love jihad’ and blamed the police for negligence.
“She had filed a complaint just a few days ago, but the accused was released. He must be given the strictest punishment,” Varude demanded.
Political Leaders Demand Strict Action
Former cabinet minister Archana Chitnis visited the bereaved family and called for strict action against officers who allegedly ignored earlier complaints.
Authorities Crack Down on Accused’s Illegal Properties
In a swift administrative response, officials also targeted the accused’s illegal properties. SDM Bhagirath Vakhala said:
“The accused has committed encroachments and other illegal activities. The administration has already taken action.”
