US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the military conflict earlier this year. According to him, Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, praised Trump for “saving millions of lives” by intervening to stop the war.
Trump’s Remarks on the Truce
During a meeting with military leaders in Quantico, Virginia, Trump said:
“The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, was here along with Field Marshal Munir. He told a group, ‘This man saved millions of lives by stopping the war.’ I felt very honoured. I loved the way he said it. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles was also present. It was the most beautiful thing.”
Trump also claimed that his administration resolved seven international conflicts within nine months in office.
Intervention in India-Pakistan Conflict
Trump explained that he told Islamabad and New Delhi he would act decisively to prevent further escalation. He said:
“I informed them that I could stop this war. Initially, they resisted, but we acted promptly.”
He added that several military aircraft were downed during the conflict but did not specify which country’s jets were involved.
Background of the Conflict
The conflict escalated in May 2025 after India launched Operation Sindoor, following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. Indian forces targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
A ceasefire was announced on May 10, 2025, following diplomatic talks. While Trump claims credit, India maintains the ceasefire resulted from direct negotiations between both countries’ military leaders.
Pakistan Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
Initially, Pakistan denied Trump’s claim, but later officially nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination recognized his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the India-Pakistan crisis.
Other Peace Claims by Trump
Trump mentioned that his administration helped resolve seven other international conflicts, including efforts related to the Gaza war, which he described as a major challenge.
