Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will now refer to its Vice Chancellors as “Kulgurus,” inspired by a similar move made earlier by the Madhya Pradesh government.

📢 JNU Follows MP’s Cultural Initiative

While addressing ministers before the state cabinet meeting, CM Yadav stated that JNU has adopted this innovation (“navachar”), aligning with a step taken by his government last year. He said:

“Just like in Madhya Pradesh, the Vice Chancellor of JNU will now be known as Kulguru.”

However, no official confirmation or administrative order from JNU has been issued yet. CM Yadav also did not clarify whether the change has been formally implemented by the university.

🕉️ Cultural Roots Behind the Name Change

The title “Kulguru” was introduced by the Madhya Pradesh government in 2024, replacing the traditional term “Kulpati”.
Yadav explained that the decision reflects Indian cultural values and Guru-Shishya parampara (teacher-student tradition). He also noted that the previous title “Kulpati” could be linguistically awkward when referring to female Vice Chancellors.

💰 Special Rakshabandhan Aid for Women

During the same address, CM Yadav reaffirmed that women enrolled in the Ladli Behna Yojana will receive an additional ₹250 for Rakshabandhan on top of their regular monthly support. The amount will be directly transferred to their bank accounts on July 12.

🎓 Guru Purnima Celebrations Across MP

To honor Guru Purnima on July 10, a two-day celebration will be held across schools and colleges in Madhya Pradesh. The Guru Purnima Utsav will include participation from:

  • District Ministers

  • Local leaders

  • Prominent citizens

  • Religious leaders and saints

The Chief Minister also announced the inauguration of Sandipani Vidyalaya (Kamala Nehru School) in Bhopal as part of the celebration.

🚌 BRTS Removal Leads to Fewer Road Accidents

CM Yadav highlighted the positive impact of removing the BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) in January 2024.
According to the Chief Minister:

  • Road accidents have dropped by 51%

  • Fatalities have reduced by 70%

He described these changes as a “pleasant result” of the state government’s public safety initiatives.
