Renowned actress Priyamani, known for her work across Hindi and South Indian cinema, has spoken out against the overuse of the term “Pan-India actor” in the film industry. The National Award-winning actor believes that such labels create unnecessary divisions among artists who are all part of Indian cinema.

🔹 Priyamani Rejects the ‘Pan-India’ Tag

In a recent interview, Priyamani said she doesn’t understand the need for the “Pan-India” tag.

“We should stop using the term ‘Pan-India.’ At the end of the day, we’re all Indian,” she said. “If someone from Bollywood works in the South, we don’t call them a ‘regional actor,’ so why label others?”

The actress, who has worked across multiple languages, added that the exchange of talent between industries has existed for decades.

“Actors have been working across languages for years. Why suddenly start labeling them now?” she questioned.

🔹 Citing Legends Who Worked Across Industries

Priyamani mentioned cinema legends like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj, and Dhanush, who built successful careers in both Hindi and regional cinema long before the “Pan-India” trend began.

“It doesn’t matter which language we act in — what matters is the character and performance,” she said.
“This trend of overusing the term is quite funny.”

🔹 On ‘The Family Man’ and Changing Audience Behavior

The actress will soon reprise her role as Suchi in the much-awaited third season of The Family Man alongside Manoj Bajpayee. Talking about audience reactions and the digital space, Priyamani said that viewers today have become “too sensitive.”

“People have become oversensitive. It’s okay to have opinions, but don’t overanalyze or influence others. Watch a film for what it is,” she said.

Priyamani explained that filmmaking is a collaborative effort and that audiences should appreciate the hard work of everyone involved.

“Some films work, some don’t — and that’s perfectly fine. What appeals to one person may not appeal to another,” she added.

🔹 On Criticism and Social Media Culture

Addressing the rise of social media criticism, the actress encouraged fans to share opinions without going overboard.

“You can criticize a film, but don’t over-criticize or make everything about red flags and Gen Z culture. It’s just a film!” she said.

She added that social media has made it easier for people to speak out but has also increased negativity and unnecessary debates.

“You can dislike a film, but don’t try to change someone else’s opinion. Many people work hard to make a project come to life — whether it’s for OTT or theatres,” she said.

🔹 On Marriage and Mutual Support

Speaking about her personal life, Priyamani opened up about her marriage to Mustafa Raj and how they support each other’s careers.

“We always discuss every project. Sometimes he encourages me to take up roles I’m unsure about — and most of the time, he’s right,” she shared with a smile.

She described her husband as “the sweetest man” who always listens and gives valuable feedback.

“He’s my biggest supporter. We may disagree sometimes, but we always reach a mutual decision that works well for both of us,” she added.

🔹 Priyamani’s Message to Fans

Priyamani concluded by reminding fans to enjoy cinema without labels or judgment.

“Whether North or South, we are all part of Indian cinema. Appreciate stories for what they are,” she said.
